Default mpeg2 compression question

sponsored links

i've captured an old footie match from foreign satty to mpeg 2 at 8bit per sec.
first half 2.5gig
2nd half 2.4gig
I would somehow like to compress this lot to cd keepin quality levels high or
simply compressed to hd.
Any ideas as to how to compress it tightly.
ciao

At 8bits/sec 2.5gig would be I think around 30days of footage... So I am guessing you mean megabit.

Anyway, to compress it you might want to try deinterlacing, denoising, etc. and then either compressing as VCD, SVCD or AVI, etc. using XviD or DivX.

How clean is it? Is there much noise?

yep mbits is perfectly correct.
Compressing to AVI strikes me as the simplest approach.
I'll pop over to VCD Help to see how its done.

Don't know how much they get into AVI's or using AVISynth over at VCDHelp. Using some AVISynth filters (depending on how clean your source is) should increase its compressibility by a fair bit.

Well I'm using Divx Codec in Mpeg Meditor as it has less knobs to twiddle than Virtual Dub.
However, It seems only to record very short segments. Is there a way of smoothing out the source so that the whole stream goes through. Avisynth looks ideal.
