Default Slow Read Speed while burning MP3 to audio

sponsored links

I am using a Lite-On 52x24x52 burner, and I have a Western Digital 7200RPM 8MB cache HDD. I tried burning an audio CD from MP3's, and the maximum read speed was 24x! Is this the fault of the Hard drive? Shouldn't it be able to read faster than this?

Because of this, my cd burner is only able to burn at 24X, which is less than half of the maximum write speed! I'll be pissed to find out that I can only burn at 24x when I payed for a 52x burner.

Is there any way to fix this? Could it be a problem with the way I have my Primary, Secondary, Slave and Master drives set up? Or the way my IDE cables are set up?

Primary Master - WD 7200RPM HDD
Primary Slave - LTR-52246S 52x24x52 Burner
Secondary Master - Lite-On DVD-ROM

My burning software is Nero 5.5.9.17

So you are converting mp3's to an audio CD on the fly?? What CPU/RAM do you have?

nevermind, I think i fixed it. The reason I thought it was burning at 24x is because I had it set to preform a read speed test first, and Nero doesn't show you the actual burning speed, only what you set it at.

I used the registry editor, to make it show me the actual burning speed, and it now shows it as starting off at about 20x, and making its way up to 52x. This was surprising, because the discs are only rated at 24x

Is the reason it starts off so slow because it writes to the core of the disc slower than the outer edges? I think i remember reading about that somewhere.
