Default 5.1 sound? and DIVX playback

I’ve been looking for an affordable stand alone DivX player. I’ve come to the conclusion that a chipped X-box is the best value for money. I’ve got a couple of ‘newbie’ questions – I’ve done some reading and managed to confuse myself.
I have read that the x-box can produce true 5.1 sound on DVD movies vie an optical cable & a separate receiver – is this true?

I only asked due to the comments below found on the

‘Xbox Media Player v1.02 by d7o3g4q & RUNTiME English Manual v1.0.4’

'1.5 XBMP Does Not Support:

AC3 (Dolby Digital) with true Dolby Digital 5.1 (optical lead) output'

Does this apply to the Xbox Media Player Software or the Xbox in general?

All I would like is a DVD player (5.1) whihc is also capable of DIVX play back (anything else is a welcome bonus)

Cheers
Stephen

XBMP is still in beta phase, when its full done I would expect digital output to be supported. At the moment though it doesnt. Theres supposed to be a new version out soon. If you're looking for a divx player, I agree xbox is a good value for your buck, you wont be dissapointed with it.

If you want a cheap DivX player, one has just been released for PS2. I'm not sure how much PS2's are now, but you don't HAVE to have it chipped to run it. Runs 'em perfectly too.
