yeah, I like that idea better mad... makes alot more sense mounting the chip over there. But which lead is the 5v on the apple chip? Is there an alternative 5v on the side where the 'open' spot is?

***UPDATE***

Just took a peek at the install pics on yer site. I take it that Point #10 on the apple chip is the 5v connection? If you do a continuity check from that point to the magic 5v point, there's continuity? Just to make sure I'm using the right spot

If you look at any Apple diagram (for whatever version you're working on), use the pin 10 spot. That's the 5V point. On a V7 it's the one in the middle of the board underneath the rubber heat sink thing...

I have installed now 15 Magic 3 chips and they ALL work great on CDR and DVDR backups. So Im not sure what your issue is but MAGIC 3 chips have worked great for me.

Chipped 2 ps2's with magic 3 and neither have had issues with booting DVDR but the first one was dicking me about with CDR but turned out laser just needed a tweak. So can't say nothing bad about them YET.
