Nah, I'll just stick it on my motherboards raid controller with the other one and have 400GB - get some ISO's on that...

Your best bet is to stick to anything under 137GB (That is all the Xbox recognises even if you were to put your 200GB drive in, you would just get 137GB). And also, get a HDD that is 5400rpm as 7200rpm is likely to overheat your Xbox and cause faults.

I have a spare 20GB 54000rpm jobbie that will do for a while

It is so hard to find a 80G or above running at 5400 RPM nowaday.

7200RPM, thay work too, don't worry about overheating problems, unless you X-box is in the kitchen.
