Default How do I fast forward movies that are .asf files using windows media player 8.0?

I can't seem to fast forward movies that are .asf files using windows media player 8.0. Is there a reason why? It works using other versions of windows media player (like 6.0) and other programs like ATI VCD player.

You could try using ASFTools to make them seakable. You could also just use wmp 6.4 it is a much better player than v8 anyway.

Is windows media player 6.4 compatible with windows xp? Also, how's the quality of v 6.4 compared to 8.0. I thought the newer versions have better features, and better video quality, but it seems that the older versions have more features, like being able to open up multiple players simultaneously and fast forwarding asf files. Any other programs?

WinXP comes with wmp 6.4 so you would hope it were compatible. Personally I use windows media player classic.

The quality is the same pretty much no matter what player you use as they use the same directshow filters/codecs.

That is strange because when I just installed windows xp professional recently, the windows media player that came with it was version 8.0
Are you using win xp home edition? What version number is windows media player classic?

The default player is v8. 6.4 is still there as mplayer2. Try media player classic though, I think you will like it.
