Then maybe the mobo has had better days, and perhaps time to consult the manual? A 9700 is quite a big jump from a gf4 mx.

Hey been away trying to work on this thing and still a no go.
But BigStan, the Geforce4 MX420 was faulty so I took it back and got a Radeon7000 instead, (not a 9700, I only wished my machine would support one of those monster cards, plus the pricetag, my wallet ain't that thick), it's nice to know when someone recognizes you.
I have an eMachines eTower466id, 64MB of RAM (hard to find compatible RAM to upgrade with, I have been looking).

I doubt very much that the bios would be able to handle that video card.

anyways, you will need to install the drivers that came with the card too, why don't you try to install that drivers......
