Talking Finally!!! I found a program that let you convert from VCD (.dat) to AVI!!!

sponsored links

okay, open the EO Video Program....
then choose file, it's on the top left corner...
then choose Extension Manager...
after that, the Extension Manager will open, choose Add New...
in the group field, just put whatever name you want...
then on the type field, choose Video/Audio...
and on the Engine Field, choose Windows Media
and for the Extension, type in: dat

now, choose close.......

now, set the Output format to AVI in the profile if you haven't, so it will convert to avi....

and i expect that you have already setup the Profile and all that stuff....

after, just drag your VCD (.dat) file in the gray box and choose convert.......

it will convert the dat file into .avi file.... works perfect...... lol....

***********.eo-video.com/ to get the program.....

Nothing new here.... Personally I can't see the point of converting direct from the actual CD, but if you wanted to VirtualDub can open DAT files... I can also see no reason why AVISynth using directshowsource wouldn't work either, that way you can run all your cropping, resizing, etc. in YUY2 and do a fast recompress.

Remember an MPG will usually be 4:3 or 16:9 where as an AVI is 1:1 so you need to resize, also a good idea to crop off the black bars if there are any.

I tested out a DAT with AVISynth by the way... It works fine. However as I said I would rather spend the 2mins or so ripping the DAT than have my drive spinning during the whole conversion also possibly slowing it down.

I just tried VirtualDub and it gave this error
'Avseq01.dat is a VideoCD stream that Windows has wrapped in a RIFF/CDXA file, which VirtualDub cannot read. You need a utility such as VCDGear to convert this back to regular MPEG stream'

You must be using an old version or something... Actually intially I tested VirtualDubMod which worked fine, but I also did try regular VirtualDub and it seamed to work fine, I however did not let it finish parsing the stream, but I assume you got your error before the input and not after it finished parsing??
