look on the back of your ntl box for ethernet or ethernet X
if it says ethernet you need a RJ45 cable
if it says ehternet X you need a RJ45 crossover cable
plug one side into your ntl box the other side into your network card.
switch off you PC and ntl box and leave for 20 secs.
switch back on and start internet explorer and type www.ntlworld.com
you will need your password and PID code from ntl.

sorry im not with you im thick.

i dont need a cable i dont think as i used this same modem on my old pc!

nothing is different apart from my pc now is brand new and using xp other than my old pc was using 98

on the back of the modem is says ENET where the ethernet cable goes. im using USB cable at the mo though although i do have a ethernet cable for it.

the modem is a ambit 100 i think.

this is bugging me now, ntl refuse to come out to make it work! they say they cant touch my pc. but there gonna lose business if they dont sort it out! ive been paying 14.99 for 4 months now and havnt even got on the net with them ONCE!!!!!!! thats 60 for nothing so far!

basically its like this....

MODEM IS INSTALLED ASWELL AS LATEST DRIVERS

CD HAS LOADED UP AND GONE THROUGH THE SIMPLE STEPS UNTILL IT SAYS 'PLEASE WAIT WHILE WE OPTAIN A NEW IP ADDRESS' SO I WAIT THEN THIS COMES UP... ' DHCP release/renew failed.
You have 1 Network Adapter(s) set to DHCP

USB Cable Modem 351000'

EVERY SINGLE TIME! SOMETIMES IT SAYS THERES 2 NETWORK ADAPTOORS SET TO DHCP.

AND IT JUST BRINGS UP THE DEFAULT IP ADDRESS OF 169.254*******

HOPE THAT MEANS SOMETHING TO YOU? COS IT DOESNT TO ME!

Hi there,

I also use ntl Broadband and have the exact same trouble. It says theres 2 adapters using a dhcp server. Do u have a usb cable? try plugging the modem in the computer via usb then when the cd asks u what setup to choose, use usb. Make sure u disable your ethernet adapter, also the main cause of the problem is if u have had a previos broadband conection on the pc it still thinks it exists so it detects 2 adapters.
