Default xbox harddrive suggestion

planngin on gettin a 80gig harddrive i can get one with 5400rpm with 2mb buffer or should i get with with 7200rpm with 8mb buffer. will i tell a big difference in the 2 or will it be almost the same.

you'll hear a lot of mixed opinions. The 2 mb or 8 mb buffer really don't matter much since its not going to be used like the hard drive in your pc which uses the buffer to cache small files for multitasking, since the xbox runs games it doesn't really multitask so you don't really care about the cache. Higher rpm drives will in theory give better transfer rates, but you're probably talking about a few fractions of a second. Some people say that a higher speed drive gets hotter than a 5400, but I haven't heard of anyone who had a 7200 rpm drive fry in their box (I have a 7200 rpm 20 gig spare I had lying around and its been fine for a few months). So to answer your questions, the two would be pretty much the same. If you want my advice buy the 5400 if its cheaper which it probably is.

I added a 100GB 2mb buffer drive that is 5400RPM. I love it. Fast and more than enough for my needs. Anything more expensive would have been a waste for me.
