Yep there is a stealth chip for that version of the PSOne. Uses 7 of the 8 legs on the chip ( no pin 2! )

Diagram is on the net.

I used this one.. www.psxtune.com/as500x.jpg

I've heard of ppl getting the Stealth 4 to work in a PS1 but I've never managed to. It wouldn't boot anything. I tried the 6-wire mode.

They work great in PSX's, though(8-wire). I use 6-wire Multi-Mode 3's in PS1's and they work 100% even with anti-mod games/backups.

Unfortunately, with all the websites popping up and the fact that PSX/PS1's are old news, many sellers just call a chip whatever they feel like and mass confusion enters the market-place.

Can anyone confirm that there is an updated Stealth 4 code that works on all PSX/PS1's? The Stealth 4 code I use(from Maxking) will not work on PS1's in 6-wire mode.

Is there a Stealth 5, too?

Hmmm, that sure looks like a Multi-Mode 3 chip.
The mode change info gives it away...

"You Switch Modes by pressing reset for 2 seconds ....

The PU-18, 20 (Supports 4 Modes)
Mayumi Ver 0.9 Mode (default) --> Mayumi Ver1.0 Mode --> 4 wire mode --> Chip disabled.

The PU-22, 23 (Supports 3 Modes)
PU-22, 23 Strongest Mode (default) --> 4 wire mode --> Chip disabled

The PSone has no mode selection due to the fact that there is no reset button, The modchip operates in the "Strongest Mode", you can however put the modchip into 4 wire mode by powering up the console with the lid open."

Cut & Pasted straight out of the readme.txt from the Maxking MultiMode 3.x hex download. See, too many sites do this cr@p...maybe when I get my site I'll call it the "Super Hyper Mega Stealth 6 Elite Turbo++" chip.

***Actually, after looking at that site a little more, all the following PSX/PS1 chips they sell are the same chip:
Stealth 4
Stealth 5
Classic "4-wire"

Everyone knows the real Stealth 4 is 8 wires, not 7. And the Stealth 4 will not work in classic 4-wire mode.***
