Well, despite the opinions above, I have a magic 3.1, it's a great chip (if you get a genuine magic 3.1 and you install it correctly) and it saves you 30-40 dollars, so why go with a messiah 2?

The Messiah2 is the best option, but the Magic 3.1 seems to be a hit or miss with a ratio or 2/10 ( 2 out of 10 will work correctly), get the Messiah

I'm starting to think all those "Magic 3.1 Problem" posts are from ppl that aren't too good at soldering. I've done 20+ installs and haven't seen any defective chips yet. Of course the boot rate was better/worse depending on the condition of the laser, but same goes for the M2.

And, CRASH HARD, why are you sitting on the PS2 and juggling CD's? You only need to hold reset for 2 whole seconds for PSX, Audio & DVD-video's...and most ppl don't even use the PS2 for those.

'cuda-- I think it has more to do with people buying clones than anything. I also have never had problems with Magic 3s, but I buy ONLY originals. People see ones for $10 and think they are getting a great deal.....

Thanks for the many opinions. So I get it the RMOD voids the warrenty? Well there's no point of that then..

About the no-swap chips; I know jack when it comes to soldering, so I'm getting my chip at a "store", where the price difference between getting a Messiah 2 and a Magic isn't huge. A couple of questions though; are all Messiah 2's "PRO"? What's the latest version of the chip, and how can I tell I'm getting it and not an older version?
