Question A Certain Game Burning Question (ps2/mac)?

sponsored links

hello,
i'm trying to backup several of my ps2 games using my new iMac G4 Superdrive. i've managed to burn 'Splinter Cell' okay (using just Toast Titanium 5.1.2 with OSX 10.2.3) but for some reason, i've wasted 4 dvd-r's trying to copy 'WRC II Extreme'. the burn gets about 5 minutes in and then an illegal error mesage of some sort comes up.

i'm using decent quality dvd-r's (verbatim) and i'm doing it at 1x speed (2x speed didn't work either)... does anyone know why the first game might have copied fine, yet the second one didn't (using the exact same method)?

i have the preferences set to Disc At Once, so the laser is constant when burning the disc image...

is 'WRC II Extreme' protected in some way?

please help,
thanx.

pow pow pow.

Was the original disk you copied it from scratched or dirty?

You can try a few things

1. Clean the disk or fix any scratches with a disk doctor
2. Get the DVD from a different source
3. Try burning at a slower speed

Did you have the same issue in simulation mode ?
Maybe you can make an .toast image using CD-copy in toast an make some test

hi,
cheers for your responses...

firstly, to answer ps2 daddy: no, the disk doesn't seem scratched (maybe a few light scratches) and it wasn't dirty. i did it at 1 x speed three times (from a .toast image). like you suggest, i may have to get another original disc from somewhere.

nikboi: yep, i tried the simulation mode also. funny thing is, at 1x speed the error came up, but at 2x speed it worked fine. immediately after i tried a burn on 2x speed, but again it failed and produced a coaster. aaarrrgghhh!

It's clear that your process is not stable !

May i suggest you to update your OSX to 10.2.5 and toast to 5.2.1
It's very imortant for toast since this new version improve the stability of DVD-R burning plus it allows me to burn at 4x with my pioneer 105

Well that depends
If this is the only disk that he is having problems with then its the disk and he need to get on from a different source.

I had to obtain 3 different copies of scooby doo before I could get one good back-up
They were scratched a lot of people had borrowed them previously (that is all I can say about that ) (For testing purposes only I wanted to see if it was my burner or the disks and my test conluded it was the disk
I have since destroyed that working backup its a bad game to me anyway)
