Default WORD 2002, any experts here on MS Word, having unusual cut/copy & paste issues?

sponsored links

Okay, I have MS word 2002. I just bought a new dell computer w/ it and have noticed a small bug I think. When I cut or copy and paste into a new document it will not paste unless the orginal document that I cut from is open along with the new document. In office 2000, I could copy and close the document and then paste it in a new word document. I tried pasting in Notepad and it doesn't paste unless my original document that I cut from is open. Is this a bug or can it be fixed. Thanks.

You have to Copy the selection to Clipboard first so that all Win based Editors can use the Ctrl C/ V/ X option. By default Word is using its own Clipboard. Don't know why. Look under Tools -> Options Tab in Word to change the settings.

Thank you for your reply. I went into options and there are so many tabs. I looked through them and am not sure which tab I go to to make this change. Can you help again? Thank you.

Mastermind, thank you for the links. I'm familiar w/ the office clipboard now and have read both tutorials, but I still can't fix my problem. I also noticed that if I cut from a word document I can paste it in my e-mail, but if I cut from the word document and close the document and then open a new word document, it won't let me paste it in my e-mail. So basically, when I close my original document and open a new word document, the cut is gone. According the tutorials, my last cut should be on the the system clipboard. I'm about to give up but thought I might ask one more time And thank you for your response

When you add the following registry entry, it prevents the Office Clipboard from automatically appearing when you perform multiple Copy commands in any of the Office programs. To add the AcbControl registry entry, follow these steps:
  1. Quit any programs that are running.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run. Type regedit and click OK.
  3. In the Registry Editor, click to select the following subkey (folder):
    HKey_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Co mmon\General
  4. On the Edit menu, point to New and click DWORD Value. With New Value #1 selected, type AcbControl, and then press ENTER.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Modify. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, click Decimal under Base. Type 1 in the Value data box. Click OK and quit the Registry Editor.
NOTE: To turn on the Office Clipboard, repeat step 5 above, changing the value from 1 to 0.

Don't know whether this procedure will solve your problem or not. But if possible just give a try.
