Default V7 with magic chip. won't play dvd-rs

sponsored links

i have a brand new V7 ps2. i put in a magic chip 3.1. it plays all my cdrs fine. it won't play 2 dvd-rs i tried on it. the dvd-rs are good. they are on verbatim and they work fine in my V4 ps2 with messiah. i tested all the wires with a multimeter. they all came back fine. nothing is bridged.

if there a specific wire for the dvdr function?

is there a list that shows what all the wires do?

thanks for the help. this is driving me nuts.

Check ur CD/DVD controller points for bridging or wires that came loose or making sure u've soldered to the right places, check the wires from the points going back to the chip making sure they r soldered in the right places.... On a V7, those points are the ones on the bottom of the board...

Also, re-check ur Bios points for any bridging...

Also make sure u load the games right, put the dvdr in, let it read the disc, this can be anywhere from 5-15 sec before u tap reset....

Most likely it's your cd/dvd controller points.

all points were checked with a digital multimeter. the meter stayed at 1 for every point i checked. i checked every point around the solder points too. nothing is bridged.

were can i find a diagram for the V7 for magic chip? i want a diagram thats confirmed to be right. maybe the diagram i used has one of the back points in the wrong location. but it plays all cdr fine. load on the first try.

edit: when i try to boot the dvdr games it goes to the browser then jumps to the red ps2 screen.

i just read another post that said to use 24 gauge for power and ground. all i had was the 30 gauge kynar i used for all the points. maybe this is my problem. but then again it plays cdrs fine.

If u use 30 gauge for power and ground, make the wires as short as possible....

U can also use IDE cable for these 2 points, just strip it....

Also, does ur PS2 read dvd based originals fine?

ok. the points i soldered to are the right ones. i just checked both pics. it plays 007 Agent under fire original.

the power and ground wires are about 3" long.

this is driving me nuts. i'm going to rip it apart again and check every point.
