I got Maxtor Dimondmax plus 9 120gb 7200rpm and it doesn't make noises as you ppl are saying. It sounds normal to me. I got WesternDigital in my PC as well, and both sounds the same. maybe you ppl had experience with too quite drives and thinking that its too loud. anyway i bought this cos it was the cheapest at that range.

i never noticed the sound from my maxtor till i got smoked out and tried to watch phone booth. all i heard was the HDD and couldn't concentrate on the movie. well the HDD and the cheetohs.

my PC has a 160gig maxtor and a 100gig WD both 8mb cache 7200. Maxtor noticibly louder upon access. But both perform way better than my former HDs IBM...

I think the loudest game by far is House of the Dead...booted from the HD of course.
