Have you put a sticker on the disc? They will put the disc off balance.

Which dash are you using? I only ever use evox.

what drive have you got (in the xbox), have a look at this

although, it could still be your drive "goin" mate, get a big hard drive and slap all your games on their.....................

I'm also having a "dirty disc error message". I just bought the xbox used from a Take 2 Game exchange store. The game I'm using is the only one I have, a brand new copy of halo. Gee, somehow I don't think the disc is "dirty or scratched", anyone here know if this is for sure a sign the laser is dying? (I've got six days to return it).........

You just described a dying laser.
Take the Xbox back and get a different one.
Look at the drives above and see if you can get an Xbox with the Samsung dvd drive.
