Default internal usb card reader not working

sponsored links

I have just purchased an internal USB card reader.
It is connected up correctly and i Know the internal usb works as I have used the from panel usb's.
One of these has been disconected to make way for the card reader.
Windows XP recognised the device and if i go into My computer it shows four extra removable discs.
When I plug in the card from my camera and click on the approrite drive it comes up with not ready.
Has anyone got any ideas.

using an ECS k7s5a.

As I said I know the internal usbs are working, do i need to install a driver ?
Thought it would be plug and play.

Cheers

Uncle

Hi uncle,

I have an external version running on XP, but it should be the same in effect. If Windows has picked up the extra removable discs and all shows with no errors in Device Manager, then it should be ok.

I have to say because you may not have checked it, and i felt well stupid for not checking this with mine.... have you tried putting the card in the other way up. e.g with mine you have to put the gold connectors on the card facing up into the card reader.

HTH, T.

Thanks,

It is a SD card I am trying to read and they only fit in one way. This seems to be the only card that you can not make a mistake on. When I do get it working I will keep an eye out for the orientation, thanks

Looks like it cound be the device it self.

Hi uncle

ah well, worth a shot. I would look into the driver option as well, plus also try it on another PC if possible, a mates or in a PC shop etc.

Otherwise, agreed, the device looks like being the prob.

Cheers, T.

Ok I am now getting somwere,
downloaded a driver from the ECS website and the unit now works.
But, always a but.
THe driver has messed up the view in "My Computer" this is probably due to it being for windows 2000 and not XP. I will have to send the manufactures an e-mail to see if they have a driver for XP.

Cheers

Uncle
