Blu-Ray is a new type of disk that can hold alot more data than even a DVD

google is your friend:-

Yup hopefully it will be the replacement to DVD. Then we won't have to worry about ripping, compressing, ect. anymore.

Looking at that a blu-ray disc wont play on a DVD player, its changing the whole format again, and after this change from VHS to DVD I can see the market rejecting this on a whole. Look at VideoCD and that Philips machine (cant remeber media name) and even BETAMAX and those were ment to be the next great thing.

We have only just really took DVD up and I cant see a new format taking off for the above reasons.

Give it ten or twenty years, then the market will be ready.

I agree that it is going to take a while for blu-ray to take off (if for no other reason than the current cost). DVDs really didn't take off until about 1997 so they will need to be around for a few more years before we can ditch them. Having 23-27GB of space on a disc will be nice though.
