Default Is someone posing as Microsoft to send out a Virus?

i got 2 emails last week from microsoft - but is it real?

it said-

MS Partner

this is the latest version of security update, the "September 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which eliminates all known security vulnerabilities affecting MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express as well as three newly discovered vulnerabilities. It's a virus m8, I think you'll find that Microsoft don't send out unsolicited updates, I've had a load of similar emails all found to contain viruses.
I've also been getting emails claiming to be "undelivered email" also containing viruses.
Shows the importance of a good antivirus program.

It is definitely a virus. I have been getting several of them a day.

hi m8 its a virus nothing to do with microsoft
they dont send any emails or patches out for program
so you know best bet is put windows on automatic update or it tells
you when there is new updates
and your be fine

thanx everyone, i did have my suspicions it was junk, but it looked so damn legit i'd thought i'd check here 1st.
it even had ms site links within it, + ms logo's an layouts!!!

i suppose they did this as they dont like ms, but thats no reason to bother us with his crap is it?
I dont like a lot'a companies - but i dont send viruses to innocent people b-coz of it!

I keep getting this one, which pretends to be from "security@microsoft.com", but is actually "admin@duma.gov.ru".

This one does not look legit at all, but is pissing me off cause I get it everyday!

Here's what it says:
