the time to buy is when you need something. If we all waited, no one would buy anything :-)

The 106 can be found in the $150-160 price range. It is a good buy.The 107 ,or whatever they call it,has been talked about. It is said to be an 8x drive with 8x for both + and - media. No release date or price. Like handyguy says,if you want or need it now is up to you!
By the way,the 106 was based on the Asus drive and the new 107(?) will probably be based on the new asus 8x drive. This is according to that freakie site.

There is always some bigger and better drive just around the corner. However keep in mind that you are going to have to wait a few months after the drive comes out for it to drop in price. If my memory serves me correctly the 106 was just over $200 when it first came out at the begininng of summer. BTW 4x Burns a full DVD-R disc in 15-16 minutes and the 8x burner will do one in about 7-8 minutes. So you will only be saving 7-8 minutes per burn. Also 4x media is dropping quite a bit in price and who knows how much places will be charging for 8x media when they come out.
