Um actually the 106 is also a 16x CD Writer so it would be a little bit faster than your current CD Writer. Unless you were talking about DVD-R writing (8x vs. 4x). I would say that 4x drives will be dropping a fair bit within the next couple of months. There is a thread posted here about how they are going to start the production of 8x media within the next month, which means that the 8x writers can't be far behind.

If you can wait a few months??? I would say wait and see what lite-on gives us for x-mas.

Last time I checked Lite-On wasn't manufactering any DVD Burners.

I think you read the news on the "freakie site" wrong because it's the other way around, ASUS drives are based on Pioneer drives.

Sure they are. The LDW-401S DVD+R/RW writer and the soon to be released LDW-411S DVD±R/RW writer as well as a slim type drive, SDW-421S .
