i have a 7.5 Gb film how do i get it down to a 4.7 GB Disk

They are numerous different ways, try the tutorial section or the search button for some ideas.

and if you have the option do not choose 4700 mb- due to the misconception of using decimal vs binary when defining size a blank dvd-r will hold 4700000000bytes which is actually only roughly 4.37Gb give or take 0.01 GB

IF use DVDshrink or dvd2one you can get away with having output file limit of 4480-4485mb if you are using good quality media- less if you go with cheaper media

Some programs like dvdxcopy express don't give you the option and tend to be overly conservative (in my opinion) producing an image or folder to burn which is about 4.1Gb in size.

For a complete newbie i would go with dvdshrink it will remove the region encoding compress the disk to fit to a desired size. and the resulting can be burnt with your burner of choice nero or recordnow max
