Jusst got a Plextor 24X but even tho it's rated at 40X read, my old Yamaha 6416 reads quicker! The plextor burns OK tho with the latest version of CDRWIN 3.8G

Don't know what your reading but the yamaha is not as fast reading as the Plextor 24x burner (in fact the Plextor is over twice as fast). If yours is, I suggest upgrading the firmware or check the configuation. The Yamaha will only read data at a max of 17x, it can't perform DAE faster than this. The Plextor will read data at a max of 40x, and is also good for DAE.

Yamaha CRW6416S
Average Speed: 15.1x (from CDSpeed2000)

The Data results and DAE results for the Plextor 24x (from TweakMax):

DATA Pressed Media PlexWriter 24/10/40A
Average Speed: 31.4x

DAE Pressed Media PlexWriter 24/10/40A
Average Speed: 32.1x

Download the data and DAE speed tests from www.cdspeed2000.com and run your own tests. Then try to isolate the problem.

This is all the hardware you will need, as the Plextor 24x is on the CDRWIN approved list for both reading and writing.

BTW, with a reader that will read CD+G, whether it's approved by CDRWIN or not (your TDK may suffice), you can use PlexTools or Plextor Manager (one of these should ship with the Plextor burner) to copy CD+Gs on the fly.

as 2seconds and i both know keymaster the TDK's are not fully supported by cdrwin, you can use cdrwin to do straight copies but that's it, it won't allow you to compile. which means that converting the mp3+G's to CD+G are out of the question (so far) i also had to get myself an additional burner for this purpose. if you're interested 2seconds i got a yamaha 88245scsi for about 80 at www.worldofcomputers.uk.com in Glasgow which i thought was a pretty good price

Yes Vinnie but Plextor Manager (with DiskDupe) is so much easier to use than CDRWIN for staight copies. You just launch it and click one button and your copy starts.
