Over heating can cause spontaneous reboots, as can faulty RAM or even power supply problems.

1) Check all connections
2) Check RAM
3) Ensure fan on CPU is spinning fast and quietly
4) If this is an XP system then turn off Auto reboot on system failure by right clicking My Computer icon and going to Properties->Advanced Tab->Startup&Recovery section Settings button. If this is a crash you should then get a blue screen with some barely useful cryptic info that might help us narrow down the problem.

Thanks m8 all of the above seems to be ok the system does not crash the game that the daughter is playing just stops and she is returned to the desktop

a mate of mine had a machine that kept crashing to the desktop on a particular game. we just about swapped everything and guess what. . . . . .faulty PSU !
