Well can you not create another partition and format it, install on that partition and use XP's MMC to manage the partitions as a workaround?

Ok, I think I know whats happening - Do the following:
1 reboot with xp in drive

2 setup screen for win xp

3 welcome to set up win xp (choicesw are)
A---set up new xp
B---repair a broken xp
C---quit setup with no install
i choose --------A

next screen is
basicly repair or gon on with new install
i select go on

No i get to the partion stage
it sasking me the following
A-=---- set up xp on selected item
B---to create partion in unpartioned space
C--- delete selected item

Select B

Then you will go to a new screen - it will then ask you to format the partition with the following:

Quick NTFS
Full NTFS
Quick FAT
Full FAT

Highlight the one you want - NTFS or FAT but select the full format.

When you boot with the XP Setup disk it sets aside some space that shows up in the partition area - and I think you might be confusing this with a NTFS Partition

Anyway it will then install XP on that new formatted partition.

HTH's

Let ke know how you get on
