Default Im confused...about wireless

sponsored links

Say u wanna connect 2 PC's...to share broadband, what would u need?

I got the impression that u needed a wireless card for each pc (obviously) and an access point...but a lot of ppl have been sayin u dont need an access point.
Also theres wireless braodband routers....would i need one of them? and would that be in addition to the 2 wireless cards or would there only need to be one card?

its very confusing and i cant come accross one person that totally understands it

Depend on your broadband.

If you have Telewest, then you could get a wireless router such as a Netgear MR314, this provide wireless as well as 4 x RJ45 network connection, so you just need a PCI card on the PC near the router and then a wireless card/USB adapter on the other remote PC.

The same goes for BT Broadband, but the routers will be more expensive as you will need an all-in-one unit (The USB broadband modem does not work with routers), but the priciple are the same as above, modem/router such as the Netgear DG814G will do the job.

The other cheap way is to go Ad-Hoc (without a router), you connect the broadband into one PC using USB connection, then you use a crossover network cable (you need a network card on each computer) to link the two up, install ICS (Internet Sharing Connection) on the PC with broadband, then the second PC should be able to link up provided both are set up correctly.
