Default Dlink 504 router problem

When i try to send files or play a msn game to/with people over msn it crashs the router if there behind a firewall, all the lights stay on and i have to do a reboot, Same thing happens when i try to send a http link or a game invite with a local pc.

do i need to open some ports or something? this is quite annoying!
