Default Can this be done??

i have a laptop on me thats on its last legs..... i have loads of stuff (15gb that i want off it( i have an external writer-but obviously 15gb on cd wud take a while!!!) i have a pc with a dvd writer.. can i back up the h/d with the pc, link it somehow.........

any help or advice wud be appreciated .... i think the lappy is almost dead!!!!!!

You have a few options.
1) Set up a network link between the pc & laptop. If the laptop has a built in network card this should cost ~15
2) Set up a direct cable connection over a parallell or serial cable. A bit cheaper that a network but much slower. This is the easiest option especially if the laptop doesn't have a network card.
3) Get an adaptor to run a 2.5" hdd on a standard ata/ide connector & take the drive out of the laptop.

im a bit new to this... i have an ethernet port on both....will this be of use?

if you have an ethernet port on both, the first option would be a good bet. you would simply need a "crossover" cable between the two, and then set up file sharing between them, which obviously we could help with at the time.

the other two options are still viable but the ethernet option would be easiest.
