Default Can a moron like me install a modchip

sponsored links

I have seen sites saying "15 Minute installation! SUPER EASY!" and it NEVER is. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if I'm just not cut out for it but it is NEVER easy to solder to those little points. What supplies should I have in order to install a modchip? Like.. what kind of soldering iron, solder, ect. ANYTHING I should have before I solder something I wanna know.

Have you soldered any delicate electronics before? If not, I would seriously recommend against installing a mod chip in a PS2. Not just because I am an installer, I have just seen MANY systems go to the scrap heap from people trying their own installs. If you have patience, and practice on a junk board or something (a lot) then it might be worth it for the experience, otherwise save your time and frustration. In most cases, supplies (if you are going to get a decent soldering iron anyway) are going to cost you more than most modders charge to install. If you do want to do it, you need a good 15 watt or less iron (with .1 mm tip recommended), solder rosin flux, desolder braid, silver electronics solder, 30 ga wire, and 22 ga wire at a bare minimum.

Most of it. Some stores have the 30 ga wire, some not. The closest soldering iron they have sucks (the tip is nowhere near small enough, but will work if you're really careful). The other stuff can all be found there.

Do you know an online site that would have all the stuff I need? I want to get the right stuff :P hehe. And for the record I HAVE installed modchips. But I've screwed up and had to get help mainly because I didn't have the right stuff *30w Solder Iron with too wide of a tip* and the wrong kind of solder. I did do it properly the other time *TOOK A LONG TIME because I didn't have the right stuff, yet again*

Not one site. I've seen good irons online (Weller has a 12 watt that works awesome, $60 for just that though). You can also find sites that will sell you 1000X more wire than you'll ever need... I really don't know of just one site though...
