Default Gamecube question

O.K i heard that u have to hook ur pc up to ur gamecube
to get it to play Back-ups.
Do u have to then download the games.
I also heard that there is a DVD with some gamecube games on it.
Anyway when u download a game do u have to keep hooking
the GC up to the pc just to play the game or once the gamecube game is downloaded is it saved to the gamecube itself???

Any tutorials or awnsers or links to pages on this site would be
