ok back from the shops changed cable........still no joy.Sorry Iron_Man_2 don't want to change the harddrive as i've got it just right.

With the new cable fitted, try uninstalling the IDE contoller again and reboot, letting Windoze reinstall it & redetect the 106.

Just done that m8 ...no change ..think i'm about to give up.....funny thing though when i drop to 2x i burns slightly faster.

Hi rushlight69

As I said earlier, I had same problem, and found my HDD to be faulty.
Is is not worth borrowing one to see if it clears the fault. You dont
have to touch your original disk. Just do a clean install of OS, re-enable
DMA on all drives and see

Do you have the Intel Application Accelerator installed? If so, try uninstalling it, as this is a known issue w/ some drives/mobo combo. Also, is your mobo BIOS up to date?
