Can anyone please help me recover the administrator password on a windows 98 or windows xp. My computer teacher is convinced I can not crack it. I could use all the help I can get.

win9x and xp use totally different systems, 9x uses pwl files which are a very easy to overwrite or find out, XP uses a SAM file which is harder but still pretty easy.

L0phtCrack is probably the best bruteforce method of finding the password.

For a SAM file you can also use an app(can't remember the name I'm afraid) which boots from a floppy in DOS and allows a new password to be specified to overwite the existing one in the SAM file.

If your "computer teacher" thinks you can't crack a password in Windows, they really aren't fit to be a "computer teacher"

think l0pht will do it, but otherwise just search in google for a suitable phrase like "pwl cracker?"

i don't condone such activity except for administrative or educational purposes.
