Default Ridata 4x : Anyone Have Issues With These ?

sponsored links

Recently Ive recieved a few of these discs. What seems weird to me is that on the data side of the disc there is what looks to be a ring of data about 500 mb in size yet the whole disc is full , this stands out on everyone of these discs i have recieved.
It looks even weirder on a disc that only has areound 2gb of data on them

Is this a case of the disc being burned at 8x maybe ? or is it the sign of a dvd burner on the way out ?? either way it looks unlhealthy to me !

Anyone ever seen this on the Ridata or any other media for that matter ?

Every Ridata I've burned, on a number of writers, has this effect, with "rings" in the burn. It's a sign that the writer has recalibrated at certain points.

Having said that I haven't had any problems. These discs are made by Gigastorage (part of Ritek) although they have a Ritek MID (though NOT the G04 dye normally used on Ritek-manufactured media).

I've run numerous tests on these discs and don't see a problem with them. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I have the frosted top Ridatas and they actually carry the Ritek G04 (at least the ones I am getting). Never noticed any discoloration issues on mine and I have burned quite a few of them.

I use [URL=***********.supermediastore.com/ritek-4xdvdr-fs.html]RIDTA all the time without a problem. The ones I buy come up as RITEK G04 in DVD Decrypter.
When I burn I full the disc up and I don't see any change in the color of the disc.
As far as compatiblity goes I haven't find any disc to be better.

The ones I have *say* G04, but they are not G04. The difference is obvious, the dye colour is different for a start.

I think there are also different batches of this stuff going around. The ones I'm referring to are the purple-topped, full branded discs.

Incidentally I only see these bands fully when I shine a torch onto the disc. This I find is a good way to see if any imperfections on the disc surface have affected the burn at all. I had a bad batch of Ritek overprints where there was a clear manufacturing fault under the light (a dark patch with swirling patterns around it). It does happen from time to time, if you look hard enough, on all media. These discs I throw away and reburn, but I get a lot of them from others who "only use the best Riteks" but send me sub-standard orange overprints which I promptly reburn onto better media.

What does [URL=***********.dvddecrypter.com/]DVD Decrypter or [URL=***********.dvdinfopro.com/index.php]DVDInfo PRO say for Media ID?
