Default My advice to prevent Dial-Up hijacks...

sponsored links

This action has increased greatly in 2004, an after noting that 'virgin sans' comments here were only half accurate, i figured it best to inform members of what advice actully works.

so as for his comments + their results...

'Download, update and run spybot'
result - it found nothing.

'If you have antivirus software run a scan immediately'
result - it found nothing.

'take a look at his "mate Jim Eshelman's site" here'
result - its scanner found nothing.

'If you don't have antivirus firewall get some free ones at least'
result - it found nothing.
- as i already a firewall in place

'AVG is ok and Zone Alarm is a good free firewall.'
result - they're not that good
- as AVG only half works, whereas zone alarm isnt as good as some think it is + non-free firewalls are also not that good, but i suppose theyre better than nothing.

'Don't forget you have to update your virus definitions regularly and scan'
result - it found nothing
- with the exception of deleting pop-mail viruses, but nothing re dial-up hijacking.

'use one of the online scan facilities such as panda.'
result - its still looking, after 15 MINUTES !

i'll return sunday to tell if the other prog links 'virgin san' suggested actully work, or his Panda scan did anything.

an way, at least members now know what advice may waste their time , though at least his advice was worth trying, an can be partly helpful to members, so i wouldnt totally dismiss his advice, its just a bit naive, as it didnt cover active-x/java script windows, thats all.

i'll be back

Sygate is a better fire wall than zone alarm.....
Also , do a search for Avast .....This application checks everything that goes in and out of your pc and alerts you to any undesireables (and it dosen't slow the pc down)

What were you expecting, for every scanner to find a ton of things wrong??! That's absurd!

It's called Advice, that's all. No one application is ever going to be 100% fool proof. None of that adice was totally worthless and the fact that the scans found nothing is a good thing, it means the things they are looking for are not there.

Most of all, you of all people are in no position to give accurate advice.

NO - for if so i would have said above - 'hey, i'm expecting every scanner to find a ton of things wrong?' - but i never said that.
