Default Hard Disc Loader

I was wondering. If you could put the games on the PS2 HD, then you should be able to unplug the HD from the PS2 and connect it to your PC and burn it as an image to a DVD-R for backup and copy it back to the HD again right? The reason why i ask is dat i want to start backing up lots of games and not have to buy lots of drives.
