You will most probably need xvid codec and the Matroska Playback Pack ********ld-anime.faireal.net/guide/mkv-eng (half way down the page).

I played the MKV file in the Windows Media Classic Player. Now I wanted to ask if you can burn this type of file onto a CD. Is it possible to do that? Do you have to convert it to anything?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can decompress the mkv file to avi. ***********.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/184742.php
If your dvd player does not play xvid then convert the avi (once uncompressed) to svcd or vcd - ***********.videohelp.com/guides.php?link=88 or use the method you prefer.
