My PC isn't reading the drives D and E

My PC isn't reading the drives D and E, they aren't in My Computer and CD's mon't load automantically when you put them in. It apparently appears in BIOS, HELP!

did yu recently install a new drive? or did this just suddenly happen? if one of hte drives is a recent installation then check to make sure you have the jumpers set correctly.

if this isnt the result of a new installation then go to device manager open the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and delete the channel that your two drives are on ( they dshould be on the same channel) reboot your machine. when windows reboots it will automatically reinstall the ide channel and should fix your problem.

When did you start having this problem? Am I to assume they were working at one time and now they aren't.

I'm using Windows XP. When I open the device manager and check the properties for the two drives it displays the following:
Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged

It's caused by a damaged registry.

The drive management.
right-click MY COMPUTER, go to MANAGE, and select DRIVE MANAGEMENT and see if they appear there properly, you might just need to "import" the drives into the Windows.
