Default HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N drivers

sponsored links

all,
I have the HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4240N drive on my system. The drive does not recognize 800mb disks and overburn in nero also does not work. it just takes the disks to be 700mb. I tried looking for firmware updates and didnt find any. The one I found on the DELL site is for some other hardware not this one. If anyone has the drivers for this drive pls post it. If you know how to make 800mb disks work on this drive pls post information on that 2.

thanks a lot

Firstly, they don't use or need drivers.

What you are talking about is Firmware, which is a set of instructions stored on a chip in your drive.

Check the manufacturers site to see if your drive supports larger discs and if they have a Firmware upgrade.

If the manufacturers site doesn't have the above, it's very simple, forget about it.

Flashing Firmware can be risky, and you must use the exact one written for your drive, and preferably from the manufacturer's site or you can render your drive unusable.

the problem is the firmware update is available only for a slightly diferent model. LGs site does not have the ones for this particular model (dead link) and hitachis site does not have one at all. i think this model was made by both hitachi and lg. so if anyone knows or has the firmware updates for this model pls post here and let me know.

If you leave an email address, I can mail you a firmware fix to remove region stuff on your drive, used it on my own in a Dell Inspiron 8200

LG GCC-4240N RPC1 and Auto Reset Firmware

An RPC1 firmware defeats the internal counters within the drive and
removes region enforcement. This only is HALF of the equation. You
need to use DVD Genie or similar software to control your player
software.

An Auto Reset firmware is an RPC2 firmware that returns to no region
and five remaining changes each time the drive is restarted. No
additional software is required, run out of changes, just reboot.

These OEM firmwares have been tested by users on their own OEM drives.

We suggest you use the firmware that matches what you have now.

Firmware from a different OEM appears to work, but it would be especially
difficult to recover in a laptop environment if it should fail in your
situation. If you ignore this caution we will laugh at you later.

Flashing this firmware requires some risk on your part. If you are not
comfortable with this please do not proceed. We cannot guarantee they will
work or flash correctly in any environment out of our control.

The update requires Windows and ASPI.
