need driver for Toshiba - CDROM-Guide forums

I had to re-install windows 98 (formatted C drive). When this was done, I no longer had access to my CD rom drive
Can not access it through my computer or dos prompt.

However, when I first boot up the computer it does
say that the Toshiba CD XM-6102B is detected.

How can I get the driver for above and fix the problem?

You won't.

Optical drives don't need drivers.

Windows has native support for all optical drives.

Is the drive displayed correctly in Device Manager?

The CD rom drive does not show up in control panel,
my computer, or anywhere else.

It's been a while since I've used 98, but in Control Panel, System (I think), and check to see if it's listed there.

There really isn't much to CD drives.

You basically install them and that's it, Windows does the rest.

If it's listed in Device Manager with any codes or errors, then post back, otherwise if it's not listed then you need to check all the physical connections.

Does not show up in device manager. I can, however, access the cd rom drive (D) when using my windows
98 startup disk and selecting the :with CD rom support
option. Once I do this the drive is accessible through the
dos prompt, but dissapears as soon as I enter windows and becomes not available.

Is it listed in the Bios correctly?

Double-check all your connections and jumper settings.

Failing all that, if you can check the drive in another PC then that would be a great help.
