Hi All, probably a totally boring question but can anyone tell me how to properly install a old Matshita cd rom CDR-172. I've got a old pentium 1 laptop that's got win98se loaded with(after much aggro!) but it just won't show the cd-rom in 'my computer' despite showing it there in the device manger with the driver needing updating. This I've tried but to do but it keeps saying I already got the latest driver there?
I seem to recall the driver needs to be loaded in a dos enviroment, which I've tried from a floppy I was given some-time ago. This has a programme called 'cdinst' which doesn't seem to do a lot. A MKE directory with a intall.exe file which I assumed was the thing I needed to install this cd-rom but this doesn't seem to want to load it either. Please help this is doing my head in, and I can't get the wench off my new laptop!
