Hope someone finds it useful.
I downloaded the pdf you suggested but it is more a technical manual than a consumer one.
However, I read somewhere else that the DW-D22A is virtually the same as the retail DRU-710A. You can download a pdf on this retail version from Sony. It has instructions on fitting, jumpers etc.
This is probably of more use.

Reading destination disc information ...

any bright ideas, besides buying every disc type under the sun and trying them all (using Verbatim DVD-R and Verbatim DVD-RW (both 4.7GB), which, according to the spec's should work)

thanks for your time

Red face RE: (E:) BYS3 MMC-Driver

The question I have for you dose the drive play CD and/or DVD. Will the drive Wright to CD.
If not you may have:
1. A bad IDE cable
2. A faulty drive or installation of driver
3. Try setting to master/slave or try cable select for that IDE chain
4. Check all connection to see if the are seated well
Maybe the drive is a lemon?!

Sorry itís not working.
James

Angry In case anyone still needs this info

meh same problem here with retail DVDs, it'll play some but not most.

Anyways, I've flashed with the most recent version of the firmware for this drive which is BYS3. you can find info on it here:

***********.computing.net/mac/wwwboard/forum/11302.html

and you can find the downloads here:

********dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#DW-D22A

and the utility and instructions on how to flash the drive here:

********dhc014.rpc1.org/howto.htm

not that it helped me much, the drive now works for everything accept retail DVDs, which makes me wonder if there is a piece of software out there to force the region code in the firmware to work properly. If that doesn't work I"ll be ripping it out of my case and buying a real drive, this time not a SONY, because I feel totally ripped off that it's a LITE-ON drive when I thought I was buying a genuine SONY product.
