Ok, so I formated my hard drive and restored my OS, installed Nero.....

First disc appeared to burn fine untill i noticed nothing was burned to the disc, its still blank!
So then I just tryed to burn a 30MB file as a test and I get a "power calibration" error
I search the forum and see people saying crap media can cause that. I'm using Ritek G04's , it does it with DVD-R and RW

this is really frustrating becuase I just need to make 5-6 data DVDs to back up my stuff, becuase i'm getting a new PC anyway on about a week

Maybe you got some fake Riteks or an off batch. Happens. I have lots of types of media around to test what works best.

Well its back to giving me the "illegal disc" error now.....however after burning those 3 RW DVDs last night I installed Ulead DVD movie Factory, so i figured maybe that was causing the error again. So I uninstalled it.... I was able to then burn 2 more RW DVDs, but then on the third DVD it gave me the illegal disc error.... i waited a while, tryed the same disc again and it burned.
I don't have alot of knowledge about these errors, but thats seems very odd to me

I don't think it could be the discs, for the simple fact that it will burn them (eventually), and also its doing it with my Ritek DVD+Rs as wellwhich I have been using for almost 2 years. of course It could be a bad batch, but both spindles of DVDs gone bad at the same time? too much of a coincidence. I have never had a bad burn with this burner in the past, slow down problems, but no errors.
So it must be the burner then, thats the only logical thing I can think of... I still think its strange it will burn a few, give me some errors, burn more, give me errors, etc....
as long as it will burn about 6-7 more Data DVDs I will be ok

No idea why it would say that.... thats strange!
Of course its in DVD mode, because I added 4GB of files to burn, if I made a mistake and accidently selected CD to burn, then I would see my mistake when adding the files, it would should up on the bar below
That must be the progme then, but why is it doing that? hmmmm very wierd. And I KNOW the disks are DVD R and RW, not CDR before you ask lol
