Default What are .avd .VOB files?

I convert my footage from a DVD Recorded disc. And it turns them into .avd's and .VOB files. What are these?

VOBs are DVD files, you burn these to a DVD using, say, Nero.

the .vob files will be accompanied by .ifo and .bup files, these need to be copied with the .vob files in order for it to play, the .ifo file contains the IFOrmation the machine need in order to see the movie

With Nero, can I convert them to mpegs and wmf and whatnot, so i can watch them on my comp?

if they already vobs and AVI's you can watch them on your PC now through media player or winamp

They aren't AVI's. How can I get them to AVI's. Or how can I be able to watch them on my PC and edit the footage.
