Exclamation Guys need some help with CD-ROMs =)

hey guys

Well i bought the CD-ROM... i attached a picture
I have 3 ROMs. The middle and the bottom ones are working well. But the top one i dont know whats wrong with it. I was hoping u guys could tell me more about setting up jumpers. The top drive doesnt load at start up. The computer doesnt recognize it i guess. and like 5 minutes later, the light flashes on the top cd-rom... i can push and eject the tray but the windows still doesnt read it.

How to set up jumpers? What do i need to do guys.
Whats wrong?
Also the bottom drive doesnt haave a switch is it normal?

thanks.. any info is appreciated

It looks like the top & middle devices are both set to master which will always cause this problem.

You have 2 options on the jumpers.

1. Set them boh to CS (Cable Select) which normally is the left most pair of pins. In this instance the system will determine which is master & slave by the postion it is on the cable. With the cable connected as in the picture & both set to CS then the top one will be master & the middle one slave.

2. Set the middle one (the Samsung) to SL (slave). This will normally be the center set of pins.

There should be markings above the pins indicating which pair is which.

HI Goosha, the configuration you have really needs to be linked into how you have your IDE ribbon cables

you have 2 cables IDE 1 and IDE 2 for ease

both can have two devices attached to them, one must be a master and one must be a slave, the master will be on the end of the ribbon cable and the slave will be in the middle.

So on IDE 1 the master will be you Hard drive C:\ if it were me I'd have a DVDrom as the slave.

On the IDE 2 ribbon, you would have the DVD Burner as the master and the CDRW as the slave.

doing it as above, if you follow the logic the drives will be able to put info out and the writers will be able to accept it (in a data flow sorta way).
