Default Help!!! Computer Freezes

sponsored links

For about 2 weeks now my computer has been freezing. I could be browsing the internet or working on a program and the damn thing freezes. My only choice after that is to restart the computer. I have norton antivirus (up to date), AOL Spyware protection (up to date), Spyware Killer (up to date), Spybot (up to date) and I run those almost daily and no finds. Is there anything i'm not doing and I should do? Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm running Windows Xp Pro

First off, have you run Defrag and Scandisc? Do you have all the Windows updates? Have you tried to Restore your system to before the problem began?

Event Viewer may give you clues on the problem.

Start, run and type in eventvwr.msc and click OK.

In eventviewer, what should i be looking for? i see some yellow warning signs and some errors. what should be looking for? any help is greatly appreciated.

also as far as chkdisk, i won't let me do it on FAT32 drive. What can i do to check the disk. i've defraged the drive, ran just about every spyware i have 5 of them to be exact and ran norton antivirus. I tried doing a system restore and it didn't let me do it. It said the system could not be restored to the date i choosed. The computer still freezing out of nowhere and it's driving me crazy. Anybody, any help again is greatly appreciated.

Is there any reason why you are using FAT32?

NTFS is a much more stable file system.

To convert, go to Start, run and type in cmd then OK.

At the command prompt, type in CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS

If it asks you to confirm, type in Y then <Enter>

Note, if your drive is lettered different, then replace C: with your drive letter.
