Default I assume the double post was a mistake?

You can't find the driver, because they don't exist and aren't required. (or do you mean firmware?)

Windows has native support, meaning you simply physically install the drive, and it will do the rest.

What is the problem?

Default cdrom not responding

Here is the problem: I replaced the cdrom with another one(the one I replaced out was working fine). The new one is a cdr-r/dvd. The device manager show the new cdrom. What else do I need to do to get my cdrom working. My system is win98. The power light do comes on the cdrom at startup and i can open the cdrom. What is the next step.

It's just a matter of physically installing it with the correct Master/Slave setting.

Once that's done, you need burning software. Which one depends on your needs.

For general stuff, Ahead Nero is very good.

For copying game CD's, Alcohol 120% and CloneCD are also good.

If you want free, try DeepBurner or CDBurnerXP (works on Windows 98)

You don't need to worry about drivers. You simply install it and Windows does the rest.

Does it play CD's and DVD's OK, and what exactly is it doing wrong?

Default CDROM not responding

The jumpers are set correctly. The rom I pulled out was set for master. The cdrom I put in is also set to master. The cdrom dont do anything when I put a cd in the drive. Also, when I click on the drive, it tells me that the device is not ready.

Is the drive listed correctly in Device Manager?

Try uninstalling it from there, then reboot and let Windows do the rest.

Is this drive brand new?
