Default DVD Burning

How-do,
I have XP-2 plus Nero 6.3.1.6 - which I successfully used to write CDs. I've recently bought a Pioneer Dual Layer DVD RW DVR-111D & have a lot of trouble writing DVDs (CDs are OK); I reckon I've used 35 disks of several makes - & thrown away 23 of them...
I've tried various Nero functions:Start-Smart, Nero Burning ROM, Backup - & any of these may fail - i.e. it stops after burning some % 11-99%: with the burning ROM option, there's no facility to cancel the thing & get a log but most logs I have acquired contain "Queue again later".
At some stage, I found a parm where the cache was pointed at the logical disk containing the program - & there probably wasn't sufficient room there. I changed that to point at 25G data disk but it hasn't solved the problem.
I also ensure now that I don't have other apps running ...........
Also, although I've successfully written a 700M disk & even a 1.3G disk I've never ever written a DVD with >2 files. [Most of my files are either single .avi or .mpg or folders containing same.
Log at the bottom:
Any ideas would be welcome [I've seen that various people have encountered this error but have not seen an actual explanation]
Also, I'm not that fussed about using Nero if something better is available; I tried using plain Windows in "Open Writable CD Folder" - but that doesn't seem to work either.

Despite the deafening silence on this problem, I tried to do several other things. I upgraded the Pioneer's 111D firmware to the latest value (1.23) & I tried yet another different DVD disc (Verbatim). Same thing - my DVD's stick while writing at as low as 10% - & I have to blow Nero away. Even tho' it's not terminated properly, the files are actually on the DVD - but when I try to play back, they have errors..............
Help !!

You could try installing the latest updates for nero, these are needed for nero to recognise the latest ROM drives.

Latest versions are 6.6.1.4, & nero digital 3.1.0.25

Try installing these and see if the probs your having are still pressent or not.

Colin,
Many thanks for this.
I did as prescribed & upgraded Nero.
Unfortunately, it transpires that my version of Nero was a trial/test version.
Application of the upgrade told me that the trial period had expired !!

I've since found "AV Burning Studio" - which is cheap & has the simple functions I need

Just remember that any time you install a NEW rom drive all the burning progs that you use will have to be updated to the latest version, as in the upgrade is the data for the program to recognise the new rom for what it is, this is why progs such as nero have regular updates.
