Actually Sony is a good brand of dvdr (I use dvd-r). Basically everytime you play something on your system it dies slowly (laser).
But mainly if you use cheaper disc it tends to stress the laser reading it more harder than it usually do if you use backup games that are not copy to good backup disc (dvdr) ! But I don't actually know I've been drinking lol

dont give a damn bout the laser worn thingy...

1 geniuine game costs more then laser itslef.
if u have the slim ps2 its like 20usd from www.progamer.cc for a new one.

i myself have a ps2 v3 - scph 30004 which i replaced to it 2 times lens and its working like new and the console is like 5 years old maybe hehe.

all my friends had to replace lens after 2 years. but then.. its like new
some tweaks with the screw on the len to calibrate it and its amazing.
just dont burn faster then x4 speed.
ciao. just play and have fun
