Default monitor hibernation problem

sponsored links

Hi, Win XP Pro SP2 O/S. set my monitor to turn off after 10 minutes in the power options. The monitor stays on even though I'm not using it except downloading files. I've checked to see if other programs are running using Ctrl-Alt-Del to bring up Windows task manager. No other programs was running except the downloading of my files. The monitor use to be able to turn off even during downloading of files. I've checked my settings and everything was unchanged. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Turn power options OFF, XP will still turn your monitor off after 20 mins, as mine does.

start - control panel - display - screen saver - i have this as None as it can cause probs with various progs etc, but at the bottom is "monitor power", click the "Power" button, Turn off monitor, you can set this to "After 20 mins (or to what you want it set to), Turn off "hard discs" set to "never", System standby "never".

See how those setting go.

Chris, What you suggested was exactly what I did before this inquiry to this forum. The computer did not respond to my request to turn off the monitor after 10 minutes of inactivity. So I decided to adjust the tine-out to five minutes. Now the monitor turn off. Any ideas why the monitor would not turn off in the 10 minute setting? Any way, thanks for your help.
